  • This research-based dance thesis production examines how the lived experiences of Benilde dance majors and alumni shape their choreographic journeys and artistic identities.

Young dancers explore how bodily experiences influence their creative processes and artistic identities.

Embers to Emergence: Embodied Journeys of Becoming is a 90-minute performance that sheds light on the untold creative journey behind choreographies.

The show explores how lived experiences shape artistic expression, movement and meaning. The presentation urges viewers to see dance as a human-centered art form reflecting self-discovery, collaboration and resilience. It uses subtle yet evocative movement-based narratives to give spectators a chance to examine the human connections formed through embodied experience. It frames the performance as a process of becoming, where the body serves as both witness and storyteller.

Deeply rooted in embodiment and reflective practice, it traces the emotional, psychological and physiological quest of dancers as they convert their life events into masterfully crafted choreographic works.

The realities of dance education are also tackled, as performers navigate the transition from passion to formal training. They confront struggles, rediscover their purpose and embrace continuous growth and transformation as artists.

Dance majors and alumni from the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde invite the public to showings of the thesis dance production of the graduating batch of the Bachelor of Performing Arts in Dance Program under the School of Arts, Culture and Performance. It is directed and co-choreographed by award-winning dancer Gab Nipales. Fellow highly-acclaimed BPAD student Red Tonog takes on the role of assistant director.

Completing the list of thesis proponents are Yanna Lim (assistant production manager and choreographer), Cyan Mendiola (finance head), Brigette Naul (sponsorship head and choreographer), Marga Salvador (marketing head), Daniel Cheng (documentation head), Melckie Lacao (creatives head), Cheska Cervantes (creatives assistant), Julia Gillego (production assistant and choreographer) and Daryl Greñas (choreographer).

Embers to Emergence will be held at the fifth-floor Theater of the Benilde Design + Arts Campus at 6 p.m. on 31 July and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. on 1 August.
