Mercedes-AMG has taken the CLA 45 into full electric territory with a new high-performance sedan that produces up to 680 horsepower.
The all-new Mercedes-AMG CLA 45 4MATIC+ uses three axial flux motors. Two motors sit on the rear axle, while a third drives the front wheels. Together, they produce up to 500 kW and send the car from zero to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds.
Its fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive system can divide torque between the front and rear axles. It can also adjust power between the two rear wheels. This helps the car put its output on the road with more control.
Top speed is rated at 270 km/h when fitted with the optional AMG Dynamic Plus Package.
The electric CLA 45 also carries a claimed WLTP range of more than 670 kilometers. Its 800-volt electrical system supports charging at up to 330 kW.
Mercedes-AMG says a 10-to-80 percent charge takes 22 minutes, while a 10-minute stop can add more than 270 kilometers of range.
The car has an active rear spoiler that changes position based on speed, acceleration and the selected drive mode.
Active radiator fins can also remain closed at speeds of nearly 250 km/h when cooling demand allows. Both systems help balance stability, cooling and efficiency.
Drivers may choose from as many as seven AMG Dynamic Select programs. Comfort, Sport and AMGFORCE S+ are included, while the Dynamic Plus Package adds a Race mode. Adaptive AMG Ride Control suspension can adjust each wheel within milliseconds.
The exterior receives an AMG grille with 10 vertical struts, slim headlamps and a front splitter. Widened front fenders and a six-fin rear diffuser give the sedan a broader stance. Standard wheels measure 19 inches, while 20-inch alloy and forged options are available.
The cabin is built for four occupants and places the driver at the center. Sports seats, an AMG steering wheel and red-stitched trim are standard.
AMGFORCE S+ adds simulated gear changes, paddle control, sound effects and seat vibration to give the electric car a more familiar performance feel.
