The Northern Police District (NPD) said it has developed a lead in its investigation into the killing of a pro-administration vlogger who was gunned down outside her rented apartment in Caloocan City before dawn Friday.
The victim was shot while she and her live-in partner were opening the gate of the apartment to park their car. Her partner was also shot and wounded during the attack.
The vlogger was known for her hard-hitting social media commentaries and had been particularly critical of Vice President Sara Duterte in several of her online posts.
Police declined to identify the persons of interest, saying investigators are still in the case build-up stage and are gathering additional evidence before filing charges.
The partners were reportedly into the business of selling and buying motorcycles.
“We cannot disclose details at this time because doing so may compromise the ongoing investigation,” police investigators said.
The NPD said investigators developed the lead after conducting extensive forward and backward tracking of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from Barangay 171 and nearby areas where the attack occurred.
Investigators are also validating information that one of the persons of interest had been seen repeatedly in the neighborhood before the shooting, raising the possibility that the victims had been placed under surveillance before the attack.
Authorities are reviewing additional CCTV footage from surrounding streets and establishments while interviewing witnesses to reconstruct the suspects’ movements before and after the shooting.
The NPD assured the public that updates would be released once the information gathered has been fully verified and would not compromise the investigation.
NPD Director P/BGen. Benliner Capili immediately formed a Special Investigation Task Group to focus on the investigation and manhunt for the gunmen responsible for the killing of the female vlogger and the wounding of her live-in partner.
Capili directed investigators to coordinate with other police units and maximize the use of forensic and digital evidence to identify and arrest the suspects at the soonest possible time.
Police have yet to establish a motive for the attack and said they are pursuing all possible angles as the investigation continues.
