Police recovered a stolen mobile phone and personal items belonging to a South Korean national following a gunpoint motorcycle robbery in Malate district, authorities said.
Officers from the Manila Police District Station 5 arrested two suspects — the alleged robber and the buyer of the stolen goods — by tracking the phone’s built-in global positioning system. A third suspect remains at large.
The victim was identified by police as Lee Jungyun, a South Korean national residing in Pasay City.
The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. at the corner of Pedro Gil and L. Guerrero streets. According to investigators, two men riding a motorcycle approached Lee, pulled a handgun on him, and forcibly took his mobile phone and a sling bag containing his travel documents before fleeing.
Lee immediately reported the crime to local authorities and assisted investigators by monitoring his phone’s active GPS signal. The tracking led police directly to a residence in Santa Cruz, Manila.
During the follow-up operation, police arrested John Michael Ray Pamintuan, of Quezon City, who investigators identified as the gunman. Officers also arrested Prince Kenneth Lim of Santa Cruz, Manila, for allegedly purchasing the stolen property from the robbers.
The second motorcycle rider, identified only by the alias “Ramram,” believed to be between 20 and 23 years old, eluded arrest and remains at large.
