  • A police officer was killed on Sunday after a buy-bust operation targeting suspected illegal firearms dealers turned into an armed encounter in Purok Malipayon, Barangay Dao in Pagadian City, Zamboanga del Sur.

Police Maj. Aiman Khuzaimah P. Pantaran, 35, head of the Pagadian City Police Station’s intelligence unit, was shot during the exchange of gunfire, according to initial reports. He was brought to Mendero Medical Center but was later pronounced dead.

The operation reportedly involved an undercover officer posing as a buyer. Investigators said the suspects opened fire after realizing that they were dealing with a police officer.

The two suspects — identified as Jhonny Bravo Gomez and Jerry Bravo Gomez — were killed during the encounter, police said.

Authorities secured the area as forensic personnel processed the scene, documented evidence, and recovered firearms and other items allegedly linked to the illegal transaction.

The circumstances of the operation, including the weapons recovered and the identities of other people who may have been involved, remain under investigation. Authorities have yet to release further details on the officers involved in the operation or the specific contraband recovered.

The incident also remains subject to a separate investigation to determine whether police procedures were followed during the encounter.
