Price often decides which ride-hailing app a commuter opens, but fare alone rarely determines which trips people remember.

In Davao City, riders tend to recall the driver who waited while they returned home for a forgotten passport. Others remember getting dropped off close to their door during heavy rain or receiving help with groceries after a long day.

These moments have little to do with the amount shown on the booking screen. They come down to how passengers are treated during the trip.

Fare, availability and convenience remain important when booking a ride. Yet conversations with commuters often shift toward driver courtesy, vehicle cleanliness and the comfort of the journey.

A calm ride can matter more after a tiring day, especially during long trips to Toril, Buhangin or other parts of the city.

The same pattern has emerged since Green GSM began operating in Davao City. Many passengers tried the service out of curiosity because it uses electric vehicles. A first trip gave them a chance to experience an electric taxi, which remains new to many local commuters.

The vehicle may have caught their attention at first, but passengers often remembered other details afterward.

Some noticed the quieter cabin while waiting at busy areas such as Matina Crossing and Buhangin. Others appreciated leaving the vehicle without the fuel smell commonly linked with conventional cars.

Clean interiors and well-kept vehicles also stood out. Riders also took note of drivers who remained calm, polite and professional throughout the trip.

Green GSM’s electric fleet gives the service a point of difference, but the passenger experience may play a larger role in repeat bookings. A commuter may try an electric taxi once because it is unfamiliar. A comfortable and respectful ride gives that commuter a reason to use it again.

The quieter ride also changes how passengers experience traffic. Noise from engines and road congestion can make an already tiring trip feel longer. Electric vehicles reduce some of that strain, especially during slow-moving trips around commercial areas and major intersections.

Many passengers may not describe these benefits in terms of sustainability. They are more likely to talk about a clean cabin, less noise and a more comfortable trip. Those everyday details make electric transport easier to understand.

Davao is widely known for hospitality, and commuters appear to expect the same treatment on the road. Drivers who show patience and courtesy can shape how passengers view the entire service.

As the city grows, ride-hailing operators will continue to compete on price and availability. The quality of each trip, however, may become just as important.

A lower fare can secure a booking. A good ride can earn the next one.
