The local government of Quezon City on Monday urged residents not to panic following a rise in confirmed Covid-19 cases over the past three weeks, stressing that the infections are mild, isolated and manageable.
Data from the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division (QCESD) released Sunday showed confirmed cases rose to 84 between 11 June and 1 July, compared to 23 cases recorded from 21 May to 10 June.
Mayor Joy Belmonte assured the public that the local government is closely monitoring the situation.
“While there has been an increase in cases, they still represent a very small percentage of our total population,” Belmonte said. “We are not seeing any clustering of cases, and all reported infections have been mild and isolated.”
Since January, the city has recorded 146 confirmed Covid-19 cases through its proactive surveillance system, which aggregates data from local hospitals and health centers.
QCESD officials cited that most patients exhibited influenza-like symptoms, such as fever, cough, and colds, before testing positive under standard health protocols.
City officials also disclosed that other parts of Metro Manila have experienced similar slight increases in Covid-19 cases during the same period.
The QCESD is coordinating with the Department of Health to submit samples for genome sequencing to identify the specific variant currently circulating in the community.
Belmonte reminded residents that the city’s 66 health centers continue to provide free medical consultations, testing when indicated, and necessary medications.
Local health officials advised the public to maintain basic preventive habits, such as practicing hand hygiene, wearing face masks when sick or in crowded areas, and seeking early medical consultation if symptoms develop.
