Department of Migrant Workers
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) on Monday announced the safe repatriation of an abandoned Filipino child from Jordan.
The child, who had been under the care of the Al Hussein Social Foundation since August 2024, arrived in the Philippines on Monday morning aboard Qatar Airways Flight QR934 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 in Pasay City.
He was accompanied by Migrant Workers Office-Labor Hub (MWO-LH) Case Officer Mohamad K. Ismail and Assistance-to-Nationals (ATN) Officer Charisse Malaban of the Philippine Embassy in Jordan.
Upon arrival, the child was turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development's Reception and Study Center for Children, where he will receive appropriate care, protection, and assistance.
The DMW said Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, together with Undersecretary Jainal Rasul, visited the Al Hussein Social Foundation in Jordan in August 2025 and learned of the child's situation.
Following the visit, Cacdac directed the legal retainers of the Assistance-to-Nationals team of the Migrant Workers Office in Jordan to exhaust all efforts to facilitate the child's safe return to the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the DMW renewed its appeal for overseas Filipino workers, their families, and government employees to remain vigilant against human trafficking and illegal recruitment.
DMW Undersecretary Darlene Pajarito urged the public to recognize the warning signs of human trafficking, including deceptive recruitment schemes and all forms of exploitation through force, coercion, or other unlawful means.
"I hope that you will know by heart the acts, means, and purpose that would constitute trafficking. The red flags are there, and each one of us must know where to go and who to report these cases to," Pajarito said.
"We appeal to everyone to remain vigilant against illegal recruitment and human trafficking," she added.
