ILOILO CITY — Dengue cases in Iloilo province dropped by 65 percent during the first half of 2026, but health authorities continue to urge residents to remain vigilant after six dengue-related deaths were recorded during the period.
Data from the Iloilo Provincial Health Office (PHO) showed 873 dengue cases from 4 January to 27 June (Morbidity Week 25), significantly lower than the 2,509 cases reported during the same period last year.
Despite the sharp decline, Dr. Rodney Labis, head of the PHO’s Health Service Delivery Division, urged the public to continue observing dengue prevention measures and support the provincial government’s anti-dengue campaign to prevent another surge in infections.
Labis said six dengue-related deaths have been recorded this year, including two in Estancia and one each in the municipalities of Ajuy, Carles, San Dionisio and Dingle.
He also reminded residents to seek immediate medical attention if they experience dengue symptoms, including persistent fever and skin rashes, stressing that early diagnosis and treatment are crucial in preventing severe complications and deaths.
The PHO likewise encouraged households and communities to eliminate mosquito breeding sites by regularly cleaning their surroundings and removing stagnant water where dengue-carrying mosquitoes lay their eggs.
