Western Visayas launches Disaster Resilience Month 2026


The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) in Western Visayas has revealed a series of activities for the National Disaster Resilience Month, emphasizing proactive preparedness and collective action to build safer and more disaster-resilient communities in the country.
This year's theme, "Naghahanda at Kumikilos Tungo sa Panatag na Bagong Pilipinas,” emphasizes the need for sustained preparedness efforts and the shared responsibility of the government, local communities, and other sectors in strengthening disaster resilience across the country.
According to authorities, this year’s celebration will feature greater participation from local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) throughout Western Visayas, through the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) regional office, with a month-long lineup of activities designed to promote disaster awareness, preparedness, and community engagement.
One of the major events is the Kabalaka Expo 2026, which will showcase disaster preparedness initiatives and innovations, as well as the Regional Rescue Olympics, with Western Visayas serving as the pilot region for the national competition under the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC).
Officially begin on 2 July, with a tree-planting activity in Maasin, Iloilo, it will also involve government agencies and members of local DRRM councils.
In partnership with the Iloilo City Government, the event is one of the flagship events of the month-long observance, advancing disaster resilience across the region.
