Tuguegarao police debunks alleged kidnapping attempt

The Tuguegarao Component City Police Station (TCCPS) has denied reports of an alleged attempted kidnapping involving a young woman in Tuguegarao City, saying its investigation found no such incident despite claims circulating on social media.
The clarification followed a viral Facebook post by a woman who described a suspicious encounter with an unmarked van while walking in the Pallua area. While the post was intended to raise public awareness, it was widely shared online, with some social media users and media reports portraying the incident as an attempted abduction.
In a follow-up post, the woman said she had coordinated with police and participated in a live interview with DZCV Tuguegarao to clarify her account. She stressed that her original post did not claim an attempted kidnapping had occurred but was meant to encourage vigilance.
She also urged the public to read her post carefully and asked media outlets to avoid exaggerating the incident, saying the misinformation had subjected her to unnecessary pressure.
In a statement, the TCCPS said its verification and investigation found no record of an attempted kidnapping linked to the viral post.
Authorities said police have intensified patrols and visibility operations across the city to maintain peace and order, adding that officers remain on duty around the clock to respond to emergencies.
The police also urged the public to refrain from sharing unverified information that could cause unnecessary fear and confusion, and encouraged residents to immediately report suspicious persons, vehicles, or activities through official police channels for prompt verification and response.
