Bataan towns undergo civil defense training

Subic Bay Freeport — Local government personnel from the Bataan municipalities of Hermosa and Abucay began a three-day disaster response training course here Tuesday to standardize how they manage emergency resources during severe weather events.
Led by Hermosa Mayor Anne Adorable-Inton and Abucay Mayor Erik J. Martel, the delegations underwent the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Basic Incident Command System Training at the Mansion Garden Hotel.
Course monitor Karl Michael Raymond Marasigan said the training complies with the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010.
The program, organized by the OCD and municipal disaster offices, aims to strengthen the capability of local personnel to handle emergencies through a structured framework.
Adorable-Inton said the participation of top municipal executives ensures that civil defense recommendations can be implemented immediately without administrative delays.
Hermosa is chronically vulnerable to heavy monsoon rains, flash floods and river overflows, particularly in low-lying villages such as Almacen, Daungan and Pulo.
High tides and damaged dikes along the Almacen River frequently worsen the flooding.
Adorable-Inton said the town intends to expand training for its disaster response office and allocate additional funds for relief goods.
