The national government announced a monthlong series of anti-human trafficking campaigns, stressing regional cooperation and technological threats as it prepares to observe National Anti-Trafficking in Persons Awareness Month in July.
The annual observance, established under Proclamation No. 1180, aims to strengthen public awareness and mobilize societal action against human trafficking. This year’s theme, “Iisang Nasyon, Iisang Aksyon: Tapusin ang Human Trafficking Ngayon!”, seeks to bring together government agencies local government units, civil society and survivor advocates.
Officials said the Philippines plans to use its ASEAN chairmanship to reinforce regional solidarity and promote practical cooperation among member states to develop a coordinated, victim-centered response to trafficking.
The government’s scheduled events include the ASEAN Regional Conference for the World Day Against Trafficking from 30 to 31 July, held via Zoom under the theme “Survivor Strength Towards Recovery, Renewal and Reform.”
The country will also commemorate the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons on 30 July.
Throughout July, the government will host public education webinars focusing on modern trafficking challenges, including forced criminality, detecting AI-facilitated illegal recruitment, scam operations, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence for anti-trafficking frontline workers.
Other key activities include a regional summit with the Cebu provincial government during the second week of July, an institutional partnership event with Radisson Blu on 21 July, and a regional culminating activity in Bohol province on 30 July.
The monthlong observance will conclude on 31 July with the presentation of the Blue Hearts Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to the anti-trafficking movement.
