Former TNT star Jimmy Alapag returns to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) stage, this time as head coach for the NLEX Road Warriors.
Alapag, 48, will take over from Jong Uichico as the Road Warriors announced on Monday.
NLEX finished as the top seed in the Season 50 PBA Commissioner’s Cup but lost twice to the Tropang 5G in the quarterfinals.
The six-time PBA champion will bring his wealth of coaching experience after his three years with Sacramento as a player development coach under head coaches Mike Brown and Doug Christie.
Alapag also called the shots for Alab Pilipinas as head coach and orchestrated a title run in the 2018 ASEAN Basketball League with Renaldo Balkman and Justin Brownlee.
Selected 10th overall in the PBA Draft, the 5-foot-9 guard won the Rookie of the Year honors in 2023 and was named the 2011 Most Valuable Player.
He was also part of the Gilas Pilipinas side who clinched a silver medal in the 2013 FIBA Asia Championships in Manila and played in the 2014 FIBA World Cup in Spain.
