Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) has reaffirmed its support for De La Salle University–Professors for the Upliftment of Society’s Animals (DLSU-PUSA), a volunteer-led organization promoting the welfare of community cats on the university’s Manila campus.
In a recent visit to the university, Meralco vice president and head of Corporate Communications Joe R. Zaldarriaga, a DLSU alumnus, met with DLSU-PUSA founding member Laureen Velasco and observed the organization’s animal welfare initiatives.
Also present was “Sweet Corn,” one of the community cats cared for under the program.
“Every life matters and every paw deserves protection. We are one with DLSU-PUSA in its mission to foster compassion, give a voice to the voiceless, and ensure that the Lasallian campus remains a safe haven for all creatures,” said Zaldarriaga, who also heads Meralco’s CATropa program.
DLSU-PUSA cares for community cats through regular feeding, trap-neuter-vaccinate-return activities, vaccination and medical care, as well as adoption and rehoming programs for stray cats.
Meralco said its CATropa program partners with animal welfare groups to support TNVR initiatives, promote responsible pet ownership and encourage community-based animal welfare efforts.
