The Visayas Command reinforced operational readiness in Eastern Visayas as Lt. Gen. Fernando Reyeg, commander of VISCOM, conducted a series of visits to frontline units in Samar.

Reyeg, accompanied by Maj. Gen. Peter B. Burgonio, commander of Joint Task Force Storm, inspected the 46th Infantry Battalion in Calbiga, the forward operating detachment of the 52nd Infantry Battalion in San Jose de Buan, the 78th Infantry Battalion in Mapanas, and the headquarters of Joint Task Force Storm in Catbalogan City.

The visits focused on aligning operational plans, strengthening adherence to military doctrine and sustaining troop morale in units tasked with maintaining peace and security in the region.

A highlight of the engagements was the awarding of honors to eight personnel cited for courage during security operations. Reyeg conferred the Gold Cross Medal on five soldiers from the 46th Infantry Battalion, while three personnel from the 78th Infantry Battalion received Silver Cross Medals and a Military Merit Medal.

In his address to troops, Reyeg stressed the importance of discipline and small-unit leadership.

“We must consistently adhere to small-unit tactics, anchored on strong and decisive small-unit leadership. We have already laid out a comprehensive campaign plan; now, it is simply a matter of disciplined and deliberate execution.”

He also urged soldiers to remain focused and united.

“Let us focus on the mission at hand. Maintain the highest standards of professionalism and discipline in what we do. Let us stay united as one Armed Forces, bound by our constitutional mandate, and trust to our chain of command. With this trust, I am confident that we will continue to move in the right direction and accomplish our mission with gallantry and honor.”

VISCOM said the visit reaffirmed its commitment to disciplined execution, strong leadership and unity in sustaining peace and stability across the Visayas region.
