The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) has relieved two prison superintendents of their duties and reassigned several key officials as part of an effort to strengthen agency accountability, officials announced.

In a statement released by BuCor, the agency confirmed that Marjorie Ann Sanidad, chief of the Correctional Institution for Women and Leyte Regional Prison Superintendent Ricardo Sespene Jr. were removed from their posts pending investigations into their alleged conduct and management.

Sespene has been reassigned to the BuCor Land Control and Management Center-Anti-Squatting Unit. Sanidad will be transferred to the New Bilibid Prison Hospital.

BuCor director general Gregorio Catapang Jr. said the leadership changes are intended to ensure that correctional facilities continue to uphold the agency’s “twin mandate” of safekeeping and reformation while maintaining public trust.

Catapang added that the reassignments are part of a broader push to improve prison management and address emerging challenges within the corrections system.

However, the agency did not provide specific details regarding the allegations under investigation but stressed that the moves were necessary for the integrity of the service.
