ZAMBOANGA CITY — Security forces have arrested a field commander and a medic of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), both facing charges for multiple attempted murders, destructive arson, and violations of the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.

Lt. Col. Al Victor C. Burkley, commanding officer of the 6th Infantry (Redskin) Battalion, said the arrests took place during a joint law enforcement operation on Friday in Barangay Bonao, Tupi, South Cotabato.

The field commander was identified as Nasrullah Omar Onsek, also known by the aliases Kagui Tatang and Kagui Onsek, while the medic was Rowaida Omar, alias Kagui Rowaida.

The arrests were carried out under a court-issued warrant and executed by the Tupi Municipal Police Station in coordination with elements of the 6th Infantry Battalion and the 1st Mechanized Brigade. Authorities also seized a .45-caliber pistol with magazine and a grenade from the suspects.

Major General Jose Vladimir R. Cagara, commander of the 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division and Joint Task Force Central, praised the operation as a “clear testament to our steadfast and relentless campaign against terrorism and criminality.”

He added, “This also highlights the importance of tight coordination and unity between our armed forces and the police. We remain committed to protecting our people and maintaining peace and order, and we encourage public cooperation to ensure a safe and prosperous community for all.”

The operation underscores the government’s ongoing efforts to promote long-term peace and security in the region.
