Residents of Kalamansig in Sultan Kudarat experienced a shaky Thursday morning after five earthquakes were recorded within the town’s vicinity.

Based on a report from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology, an initial magnitude 3.4 earthquake was recorded west of Kalamansig at around 12:53 a.m., with a depth of 17 kilometers.

This was followed by a series of quakes of varying magnitudes from 2:23 a.m. to 9:40 a.m., with the most recent event occurring along the shoreline of Kalamansig. The quake registered a magnitude of 2.1.

The agency said it does not expect significant damage or destructive aftershocks from the tremors.

The recent earthquakes are part of the thousands recorded in the area since the swarm began on 19 January.

The strongest earthquake recorded during the period was magnitude 5.9, which struck 40 kilometers west of Kalamansig at 2:46 p.m.

PHIVOLCS reminded residents to remain alert and prepared for possible seismic activity.

Meanwhile, Boac in Marinduque also recorded a magnitude 2.0 earthquake at 6:31 a.m. the same day.
