DAVAO CITY — The Davao City Fire District reminded Dabawenyos to avoid using substandard appliances and unsafe wiring practices to prevent fire hazards, after recording 114 fire incidents from January to February 2026.
Fire Senior Inspector Frances Marie S. Sendrijas said electrical failures remain the most common cause of fires in the city.
“Fire incidents resulting from electrical failures remain to be the common reason. Responsibility begins at the household level, and avoiding dangerous practices like octopus wiring and overloading outlets is important to keep families safe,” Sendrijas said during the weekly Davao Peace and Security Press Corps briefing.
She also urged residents to be cautious when purchasing appliances.
“We advise them that when buying an appliance, if possible, avoid substandard ones,” she added.
The DCFD continues to roll out its “Oplan Ligtas sa Pamayanan” program, visiting barangays to educate residents on fire prevention and promote safety measures.
