Two low-pressure areas (LPAs) may form near the country in the days leading to Valentine’s weekend, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Wednesday, even as no weather disturbance is currently being monitored within or outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR).
In a Balitanghali weather update, PAGASA said one LPA may develop near the southern portion of Palawan until Sunday, 15 February.
Another potential LPA may form east of Mindanao and could move closer to the area, though forecasters said it has a low chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone.
As of 8 a.m. Wednesday, PAGASA clarified in a separate advisory that no LPAs are being tracked for cyclone formation.
Meanwhile, the shear line and the northeast monsoon, locally known as Amihan, continue to affect large parts of Luzon and the Visayas, bringing cloudy skies, rains and strong winds.
PAGASA warned that Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon and Northern Samar may experience heavy rainfall ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters from Wednesday to Thursday noon due to the shear line.
The weather bureau cautioned residents in affected areas to remain alert for possible flooding and landslides.
The agency said weather conditions across other parts of Luzon and the Visayas will remain unsettled as the Amihan persists in the coming days.
