Baguio City — A construction worker may face attempted murder charges after he allegedly stabbed a coworker who taunted him with a homophobic slur, police said.
The suspect, 25, is a resident of Santiago, Sto. Tomas, Batangas, and is currently working in Baguio City. The victim is a 44-year-old coworker who is also employed in the city.
Police said the incident occurred on 3 February at the workers’ barracks along Assumption Road in Barangay Kabayanihan.
Initial investigation showed that the suspect and the victim had just returned to their quarters when the victim began teasing the suspect. The suspect allegedly responded by grabbing a knife and stabbing the victim.
Investigators said the group had been drinking earlier at an establishment along Magsaysay Avenue. While there, a female entertainer reportedly referred to the suspect as gay.
The remark was allegedly repeated by the victim when they returned to their barracks, which authorities believe may have triggered the attack.
Police have yet to release an update on the victim’s medical condition. He remains confined and under treatment at a hospital emergency room.
