The Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA), the country’s premier maritime institution, held its 206th Grand Alumni Homecoming at the PMMA campus in San Narciso, Zambales on 24 January, bringing together graduates from across generations in a celebration of camaraderie, service, and maritime excellence.

The PMMA Classes ending in 1 and 6 were designated as the host classes for this year’s Grand Alumni Homecoming.

Leading the host class is Arnold Javier, class president of PMMA Class 1991 and president of Magsaysay Maritime Corporation, who was elected as chairman of the host class for the event.

In the lead-up to the main celebration, a series of pocket events were successfully conducted to strengthen fellowship and engagement among alumni and their families.

These activities included a movie night, highlighted by a premiere screening of “Jurassic Park,” where PMMA graduates and their families enjoyed an evening of bonding and shared memories.

This was followed by a Fun Shoot Event held at the Philippine Coast Guard firing range, where many alumni demonstrated their marksmanship skills in a spirited and collegial setting.

Another highlight was the golf competition dubbed “Battle of the Bunkmates,” which drew more than 100 players, composed largely of PMMA alumni and members of Marinsport.

The tournament was held at the Philippine Navy Golf Course and showcased friendly competition and the strong esprit de corps among PMMA graduates.

The culmination of activities was the Grand Alumni Homecoming, with Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Javier Cacdac serving as the guest of honor.

The program began with a luncheon at the PMMA Mess Hall, during which selected PMMA employees who have dedicated many years of service to the academy were formally recognized.

A parade of midshipmen and a silent drill performance also transpired, highlighting the discipline, precision, and traditions instilled in every PMMA midshipman.

The event includes the introduction of newly elected PMMA alumni officers.

To conclude the celebration, a raffle draw was held with the grand prize being a BYD Seal 5 Dynamic, which added excitement to the memorable occasion.

The PMMA has already produced highly competent deck and engine officers, as well as officers for the PCG.

PMMA graduates are globally competitive and highly sought after by international shipping companies, a testament to the academy’s enduring commitment to excellence, discipline and service.

The 206th Grand Alumni Homecoming reaffirms PMMA’s proud legacy and the strong bond shared by its graduates, as they continue to support the academy and contribute meaningfully to the industry and the nation.
