LCSP backs anti-sexual harassment push in public transport

The Lawyers for Commuters Safety and Protection (LCSP) expressed support for recent moves by the Department of Transportation (DoTr) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to strengthen measures against sexual harassment in public transport, citing persistent risks faced by commuters, particularly during peak hours.

LCSP said enforcement efforts should be complemented by the Department of Justice (DoJ), especially in ensuring the filing and prosecution of cases against offenders.

LCSP founder Attorney Ariel Inton said incidents of sexual harassment often occur during rush hours, when crowded conditions place female passengers at greater risk.

(“LCSP is also pushing for the enforcement of proper passenger queues at terminals and loading and unloading zones to prevent chaotic boarding situations that often disadvantage pregnant women, senior citizens, children, and persons with disabilities who cannot compete physically with male passengers.”)

(“LCSP supports DoTr and LTFRB efforts against sexual harassment in public transport, not only through reminders to drivers and operators but through the immediate imposition of penalties on those found guilty.”
