Bacolod Bulk Water Inc. (BBWI) has started operating its second water treatment plant, a P1.5 billion facility that will provide more reliable and affordable potable water to Bacolod City and Murcia.
The plant is designed to supply up to 40 million liters per day (MLD), meeting about 40 percent of Bacolod City’s water needs, and can scale up to 60 MLD.
Together with BBWI’s first facility, the two plants can serve 750,000 residents.
“This project demonstrates how strong public-private partnerships and foreign investments deployed into strategic and focused water companies such as Tubig Pilipinas, can deliver critical infrastructure that supports SDG (sustainable development goals),” BBWI Chairman Ryan Yapkianwee said on Wednesday.
BBWI is a subsidiary of Tubig Pilipinas Holdings Inc., with parent Pure Energy Holdings Corp.
The company continues to expand nationally, with the 50 MLD Jaclupan Bulk Water Supply Project in Talisay City, Cebu, set to be operational within the year.
Its operational plants include San Jose City, Nueva Ecija; Cadiz City, Negros Occidental; Catbalogan, Samar; Nabua, Camarines Sur; Echague, Isabela; Trece Martires City, Cavite; Coron, Palawan; Sual and Labrador, Pangasinan; Catarman, Samar; and Borbon, Cebu.
