A stranded dolphin was rescued off the coast of Sitio Lipata, Barangay Bucalbucalan in Sorsogon City on 9 January 2026.
According to the Agricultural Technician and Acting Fishery Regular Officer Victor Janoras, residents who saw the dolphin thought it was a huge fish and netted the animal before taking it near the shore.
He added that one of the reasons why the dolphin was very near the shore was due to hunger, with the animal looking for food.
Janoras said that the dolphin is a female and has a measurement of more than two meters.
After evaluating the marine mammal, checking for wounds and other illnesses, the personnel of the City Agriculture office led the dolphin to deeper waters before releasing it.
Janoras urged the public to report any marine mammal stranding in the area to the agriculture office, citing that the office will provide immediate action and ensure the safety of the animal.
