The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) has expanded its PowerPlants Urban Farming Program, now operating in 17 locations including its headquarters, business centers, and sector offices.
The program engages more than 160 employee volunteers and distributes harvested produce to nearly 500 beneficiaries. The initiative aims to promote access to fresh vegetables and encourage employee participation in environmental and wellness activities.
This year, Meralco partnered with local government units in Quezon City to develop community farms in Barangays Talayan, Bahay Toro, and West Kamias. These sites provide residents with access to fresh produce while supporting local food security.
The program plans to open additional farm sites and host volunteer activities to maintain and expand produce distribution.
