ROLANDO Bregente
Rolando Bregente is the lone Filipino still in contention for a medal as the 33rd Southeast Asian Games golf competition heads into its final round in Pattaya, Thailand, on Saturday.
With his teammates struggling, Bregente, a Del Monte standout, sits in sixth place at 4-under after a two-over-par 74 at Siam Country Club Rolling Hills. He remains four shots behind Vietnamese Nguyen Anh Minh and Thai Sarasmut Parin, who are tied for second.
Thailand’s Laopakdee Pongsapak looks set to claim the men’s individual gold, carding a second consecutive 66 to surge to 19-under.
Among the rest of the Filipino contingent, Chris John Remata is second-best at 1-over following a 69. Perry Josef Bucay sits in 22nd at 10-over after a 73, while Shinichi Suzuki is tied for 28th at 21-over after a 77.
It has been a tough outing for the women’s side as well. Rianne Malixi of Duke University struggled again, shooting a 78 and dropping to joint 10th at 11-over. Junia Gabasa posted a 73 for 13-over, and Grace Quintanilla carded a 77 to sit at 22-over.
Thailand dominates the leaderboard in the women’s division too, with Kaopattanaskul Kritchanya leading at 5-under, two shots ahead of teammate Prachnakorn Prim.
