Chinese General Hospital shows why the future of Philippine healthcare may already be standing on Blumentritt Street.
Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center (CGHMC), one of the country’s oldest and most respected institutions, opened its doors to the press Tuesday with a message that world-class healthcare is no longer a distant promise. It is being built, expanded, and lived out.
During its Media Appreciation Day and memorandum of agreement signing on 9 December, CGHMC showcased a lineup of medical advancements, programs, and facilities that position it as one of the Philippines’ most forward-looking hospitals. The event also marked a proud moment for the institution after receiving two major accreditations from the Department of Tourism: Tertiary Hospital Accreditation for Medical Tourism and regular accreditation for CGH Residences as an official Mabuhay Accommodation.
World-class
At the center of the hospital’s upgrades is its strengthened participation in the PhilHealth YAKAP Program, designed to give Filipinos equitable access to essential healthcare services. Through YAKAP, patients are ensured free or affordable consultations, health risk screenings, and selected laboratory tests.
The hospital also spotlighted its expanding Ears Diagnostics Hearing Unit, equipped with advanced auditory testing technology, including modern audiometry systems. This ensures early detection and accurate diagnosis for patients with hearing concerns.
Meanwhile, the Department of Family and Community Medicine reaffirmed its thrust to provide continuous, coordinated care that is patient-centered, family-focused, and community-oriented.
One of the highlights of the presentation was CGHMC’s Dual Energy 160-Slice CT Scan, a state-of-the-art imaging system capable of exceptional detail and diagnostic precision. Its next-generation applications include dual energy analysis, stone and gout evaluation, cystic tumor analysis, liver segmentation, perfusion studies, and multiple AI-driven features that improve accuracy and speed.
CGHMC also emphasized its role as a training ground for the country’s next generation of healthcare professionals. It currently offers robust residency programs in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology, Anesthesiology, Internal Medicine, Nuclear Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Radiological Sciences, Surgery, and Neurology.
