According to police reports, a shooting incident was recorded shortly after noon on 8 December inside a beach resort in Barangay 35, Gabu Sur, Laoag City.
Based on the report of the Laoag City Police Station, the intended victim was identified as Aldous Saturnino Madamba, 53, single with a live-in partner, and a resident of Barangay 59, Dibua South, Ilocos Norte. The person of interest in the incident was identified as Glizer Rivera, of legal age and a resident of Barangay 22, Laoag City.
Police said that at around 12:00 noon, the victim was supervising caterers who were preparing a reception area at the resort when an argument reportedly occurred between the two individuals after the victim allegedly noticed the suspect staring at him. According to investigators, the suspect allegedly took out a firearm from a sling bag, loaded it, and fired one shot toward the victim. The victim was not hit and did not sustain any injuries.
After the reported gun discharge, the suspect allegedly fled the scene onboard a Toyota Vios, based on police accounts.
Authorities further said that the victim later turned over to responding officers one fired cartridge case believed to be from a caliber .40 firearm. Personnel from the Ilocos Norte Police Forensic Unit conducted crime scene processing; however, according to police, no additional physical evidence was recovered at the scene.
The Laoag City Police said a hot pursuit operation is ongoing for the possible location and arrest of the suspect. Investigators are also looking into a possible old grudge as the motive for the incident, according to initial police findings.
