Google on Thursday released its annual “Year in Search,” revealing the trends, events, and personalities that captured the attention of Filipinos in 2025.

The tech giant said this year’s overall top trending term was “Gemini AI,” reflecting not only interest in Google’s flagship AI tool but also the growing reliance of Filipinos on artificial intelligence for daily tasks, schoolwork and digital projects.

Elections and public safety also dominated online behavior. “Halalan 2025 results” ranked second overall as millions sought real-time updates during the midterm polls. Frequent earthquakes in the latter part of the year pushed “earthquake near me” to fourth place, with Google noting a surge in searches related to safety information and alerts.

Entertainment remained a major influence. “Squid Game,” which returned with a much-anticipated finale, placed sixth overall and topped the Shows and Series category. Roblox title “Grow a Garden” ranked third overall and was the top trending game, underscoring the platform’s popularity among Filipino youth.

Filipino athletes and creators also rose in public interest. Tennis star Alexandra Eala ranked first in Female Personalities and fourth in Sports, while singer Dionela topped Male Filipino Personalities. In music, “Tibok” was the most searched song of the year, followed by Dionela’s “Marilag” and “Golden” from Netflix’s K-Pop Demon Hunters.

Google said streaming platforms, especially Netflix, dominated the Shows and Series category, which this year featured exclusively online titles. This reflects findings from the e-Conomy Report, which identified the Philippines as one of Southeast Asia’s fastest-growing online media markets, expanding by 16 percent year-on-year.
