The Philippine National Police (PNP) seized P579 million worth of contraband in 666 anti-smuggling operations conducted nationwide from 26 August to 27 November.
PNP Acting Chief P/Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said a total of 604 suspects were arrested during the operations.
Confiscated items included P512.6 million worth of smuggled cigarettes, P1.29 million in petroleum products, P6.8 million in agricultural goods, and P58.8 million in assorted illegal merchandise.
All suspects are now detained and facing charges.
Over the same period, the PNP Highway Patrol Group recovered 432 stolen vehicles — 326 cars and 106 motorcycles — while 113 suspects linked to carnapping, highway robbery, and “rent-tangay” schemes were arrested.
Authorities also seized nine firearms and filed 92 related cases.
Nartatez reminded motorists to stay vigilant amid heavier holiday traffic and warned vehicle owners and rental businesses to be cautious, noting that “rent-tangay” incidents typically increase toward year-end.
