Cacdac flies to Hong Kong to visit injured OFW
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Cacdac on Tuesday left for Hong Kong to personally visit the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who remains hospitalized, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) said.
DMW Undersecretary Dominique Rubia-Tutay said Cacdac will check on the condition of the only Filipino still confined in the hospital and will meet with Hong Kong’s Labor Minister.
Tutay said Rhodora Alcaraz, the hospitalized OFW, is no longer in the intensive care unit and is now in stable condition.
“Yesterday, the sibling of our domestic worker Rhodora left the country to visit her, it was a compassionate visit. We helped them so they could go to Hong Kong,” Tutay added.
Alcaraz is a newly arrived domestic worker who was injured after rescuing the three-month-old child of her employer.
Tutay also said that the agency has extended help to the family of Maryan Pascual Esteban, the OFW who passed away in the incident. Esteban leaves behind a 10-year-old son in Cainta, Rizal.
Aside from financial assistance, Tutay said the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) will provide scholarship aid for the victim’s child.
“The local government unit has also promised monthly assistance to the family.”
Based on the latest data from the Philippine Consulate General in Hong Kong, 92 Filipinos are reported safe and accounted for. There are no longer any reported missing Filipinos.
Philippine Consul General in Hong Kong Romulo Victor Israel Jr. previously noted that there are about 6,000 families living in the Tai Po district, many of whom employ Filipino domestic workers.
