Police have arrested a stepfather accused of sexually abusing a minor in Laoag City, Ilocos Norte. Information in this report has been heavily redacted from official sources to protect the victim’s identity and privacy.
Laoag City Police Station responded to a report of the incident at the family home. Officers apprehended the suspect on site and recovered items, including plastic sachets with suspected shabu and drug paraphernalia from his possession.
The suspect faces charges under Republic Act No. 7610, the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, which imposes severe penalties for child abuse by stepparents, including prision mayor in its maximum period (8-10 years), fines starting at P50,000, and loss of parental authority. He also faces renewed charges under Republic Act No. 9165, the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, stemming from prior violations and the seized items.
Investigations continue as authorities build cases for sexual abuse and drug offenses.
