The Quezon City local government announced Thursday that it has lifted the ban it imposed on 14 lechon shops due to the African Swine Flu (ASF) virus.

The city earlier ordered the temporary closure of 14 lechon or roasted pig shops in La Loma after ASF traces were detected, requiring the establishments to conduct daily disinfection for one week with the assistance of the City Veterinary Department and the QC Health Department.

“Ikinalulugod na ibalita ng lokal na pamahalaan na wala nang ASF virus sa 14 na lechon establishment sa La Loma, Quezon City,” the statement read. It added that the establishments were also ordered to comply with the necessary sanitary, safety, and health protocols before reopening.

Lechon shop owners earlier expressed concern that the shutdown came at a crucial time with the holiday rush approaching. “Feeling back to normal operation soon po and confident to have safe lechons in coming holidays,” Kap. Maca of Ping-Ping Litson told the Daily Tribune when asked about the lifting order.

Three of the establishments have already received lifting orders and are now allowed to operate after securing clearance from the City Health Department and City Veterinary Department.

“Patuloy na tutulong ang lokal na pamahalaan sa mga negosyante upang matiyak na ang lahat sa kanila ay makasunod sa mga protocol at mapanatiling de-kalidad ang mga produktong nagmumula sa La Loma,” the QC government added.
