University of Batangas moved on the threshold of another title sweep after downing Immaculada Concepcion (ICC) College, 25-20, 25-18, 25-20, in Game 1 of their men’s title series in the PG Flex-UCAL Season 8 volleyball tournament on Tuesday at the Paco Arena in Manila.

Prince Ramirez and Aldrin Rosales took turns in shattering ICC’s defense with thunder-like hits and brilliant combinations that caught the Blue Hawks off guard many times much to the delight of their supporters in the opener of their best-of-three title series.

The win enabled the Brahmans to stretch their amazing winning run to nine games this season and 21st overall since their grand sweep of the title last year.

Both power spikers finished with 11 points each but it was setter Christian Briones who made the difference after tallying 20 excellent sets and six points, including one service ace.

The Brahmans can complete another perfect title run with another win on Thursday also at the same venue.

That will also be the mission of defending titlists ICC Lady Blue Hawks after defeating the Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas, 25-21, 25-18, 25-20, in the women’s side.

In keeping their pristine record intact in the 8-team event, the Lady Blue Hawks went to wing spiker Jho Rence Siazon who logged in eight points on six attacks apart from five receptions and two digs.

Middle-blocker Jeheil Moraga led ICC’s scoring with 12 points off 9 attacks, two blocks and an ace.

Andrea Caparal, the hero in the team’s 24-26, 25-20, 25-20, 25-20, win over the Lady Brahmans also sparkled with nine points.
