Globe targets 500 hybrid EVs by 2028
Globe Telecom, Inc. is accelerating its transition to a low-carbon fleet, targeting nearly 500 vehicles to be converted to hybrid or fully electric models by 2028.
To kickstart the shift, the Ayala-backed company said Monday that it tapped AC Mobility to roll out 20 Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs) for its Field Sales Service Vehicles by the end of the year.
The move is expected to cut around 5 million kg of carbon emissions over five years while saving at least P100 million in fuel costs.
“Hybrid EVs are not just more efficient to operate and maintain, they also allow us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint,” Globe President and CEO Carl Cruz said.
“This roadmap is a powerful example of how a strong business strategy can go hand in hand with environmental responsibility. With partners like AC Mobility and BPI Tokyo Century by our side, we are showing that meaningful change is possible.”
The initial rollout will serve B2B Sales and Customer Management teams, with later phases extending to network operations groups.
AC Mobility CEO Jaime Alfonso Antonio Zobel de Ayala added: “Globe’s decision to electrify its fleet is not just a purchase, it is a powerful statement of leadership.
We are committed to enabling this transition with BYD vehicles, charging networks, and digital platforms that make sustainability practical, scalable, and accessible.”
Meanwhile, BPI Tokyo Century Rental Corporation President Satoshi Matsuo emphasized the crucial role of financing in accelerating fleet electrification.
He noted that by making sustainable vehicle options accessible and practical, companies like Globe can achieve their environmental targets while improving operational efficiency.
Matsuo said BPI Tokyo Century is proud to support Globe and AC Mobility in this milestone.
Globe’s EV roadmap targets 20 HEVs by 2025, 200 by 2026, and 300 more by 2028, gradually expanding from Luzon and Visayas to Mindanao as charging infrastructure improves.
The plan build on Globe’s 2021 Net Zero Roadmap and supports current efforts, such as switching shuttles to EVs with Global Electric Transportation, backing the Evro charging network via 917Ventures, and helping employees move to electric or hybrid vehicles through the G-Evolution program.
