A 16-year-old male student was found dead near the Marikina River in the Philippine Rock area of Barangay San Isidro, an incident reported as an alleged suicide by the Rodriguez Municipal Police Station.
The Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) reported the case around 9:30 a.m. on Friday, 21 November. Duty investigators responded and conducted an initial inquiry into the circumstances leading to the teenager’s death.
According to the account of the victim’s mother, identified only as alias Norlita, she scolded her son after he argued with his sibling on Wednesday night, 19 November.
She said she last saw him around 11 p.m. using his cellphone. When she woke up at 2 a.m., she noticed that he was no longer in the house.
She later found a letter on the table addressed to her, as well as to the victim’s classmates and teachers.
In the note, he wrote about long-standing thoughts of suicide and referenced his beliefs involving the afterlife and themes from the Isekai anime he followed.
Worried, the family sought help from barangay personnel, who checked CCTV footage. The teenager was last seen walking on the Eastwood Bridge in the Philippine Rock area.
Authorities said a concerned citizen reported seeing the boy at the river shortly before he went missing.
Barangay personnel and the MDRRMO launched a retrieval operation, and the student’s body was found the following day.
The victim’s remains were brought to Sta. Cecilia Funeral Homes for proper disposition.
The Rodriguez Municipal Police Station is continuing its investigation to determine the events leading to the alleged suicide.
