Senator Christopher “Bong” Go’s Malasakit Team visited Agno, Pangasinan on Thursday, 20 November, to extend assistance to families affected by tropical storm “Uwan.”

In coordination with Agno Vice Mayor Jonathan Doromal, the team distributed 200 grocery packs, along with pens, shirts, fans, basketballs, and volleyballs to affected residents.

Pangasinan’s adopted son, Senator Go, underscored the vital role of frontliners and emergency personnel during calamities.

“In every disaster, there are people who quietly work to save and help others, even at the risk of their own safety. Their sacrifices deserve to be recognized,” Go said.

He also highlighted Senate Bill No. 669, which seeks to grant hazard pay to all qualified responders directly involved in disaster operations, particularly those working in high-risk situations.

“This is not just about providing aid — it is also about acknowledging the real heroes behind every relief effort,” he added.

Go renewed his call for the construction of permanent evacuation centers in all municipalities and cities as mandated by Republic Act 12076 or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers Act, which he principally authored and co-sponsored.

He pointed out that schools, gymnasiums, and covered courts are often used as temporary evacuation sites, but their unsanitary and cramped conditions bring additional hardships to displaced families.

“It is heartbreaking to see our fellow Filipinos crowded in unsuitable places — like schools where children’s classes are disrupted, or in covered courts that lack proper sanitation,” he said.

Go also reiterated his proposal to create a Department of Disaster Resilience, which he refiled in the 20th Congress, aiming to consolidate disaster risk reduction, preparedness, response, and rehabilitation efforts under one dedicated agency.

“We will continue to serve because service has become my calling, and I believe that serving the people is serving God,” said Go, who is widely known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate assistance to Filipinos in need.
