The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said it has launched stricter measures against the unauthorized manufacture, sale, and use of police uniforms. 

PNP acting chief P/Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez has ordered police units to coordinate with online platforms to prevent illegal sales and inspect physical stores, including those around Camp Crame, to ensure they are authorized to sell police uniforms.

“Our uniforms are not only a symbol of authority. They also represent honor, integrity and professionalism of the organization which we represent. It is the obligation of every police officer to protect and wear them with pride and dignity,” he said.

The new PNP order came after the National Police Commission recently convened accredited uniform suppliers to discuss enhanced oversight and accountability in uniform production and distribution. 

“We will work with online selling platforms to thwart any illegal sale of police uniforms, and we will also inspect stores to check if they are authorized to produce and sell these uniforms,’ ’Nartatez said, directing all police officers to remain vigilant in protecting uniforms, insignias, and other official accoutrements.

Authorities have reported a rise in unauthorized sellers near the PNP National Headquarters and on various online platforms.
