Megaworld Corp. is accelerating the electrification of its Citylink bus fleet through a partnership with Movem Electric Inc., the electric mobility subsidiary of Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), which will deploy 11 electric buses across key townships by 2026.

Meralco said Monday it will roll out the second unit in Newport City, Pasay, next month, after introducing the first in McKinley Hill, Taguig, last April.

Scheduled for deployment by 2026

Nine additional units are scheduled for deployment by 2026.

Each bus can carry 24 seated and 11 standing passengers and will operate alongside existing internal combustion engine buses that will be gradually phased out.

Movem also plans to equip the e-bus fleet with EV charging infrastructure to support efficient operations and ensure maximum uptime.

Megaworld’s acceleration of electric mobility initiativss

“We are committed to continuing to support Megaworld to accelerate its electric mobility initiatives. It is through working with like-minded partners that we can drive the Philippines’ journey towards cleaner and greener transportation,” Movem chief operating officer Maria Francesca Defensor said.

As part of the long-term plan to fully electrify the fleet, more e-buses will be rolled out in Uptown Bonifacio and in Megaworld townships in the Visayas.

“This partnership is a vital step towards fulfilling our vision of building sustainable townships across the Philippines. An important part of this initiative is being able to provide innovative mobility solutions for people who live, work, and play in our townships. This partnership with Movem is just the beginning of bringing this vision to reality,” Megaworld head of Estate Management Don Earl Caagbay said.
