The Philippine National Police (PNP) has ordered the immediate repair and rehabilitation of police stations and facilities damaged by Super Typhoon Uwan.

PNP chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. directed units to ensure the continuity of public services and restore operations in affected areas as soon as possible.

Initial reports showed significant structural damage in several provinces, including Aurora, where the Casiguran Municipal Police Station’s barracks were destroyed. Police personnel assigned there have been forced to operate from an empty detention cell while awaiting repairs.

“We are expediting all necessary procedures to start the repair and rehabilitation of all facilities damaged by the typhoon,” Nartatez said. “We are also providing assistance to affected personnel.”

The PNP has deployed thousands of officers for disaster response and relief operations in regions hit by recent calamities, including the earthquakes in Cebu and Surigao del Sur, and the two strong typhoons that recently struck Luzon and the Visayas.

Nartatez noted that some police officers deployed for disaster response were also among those affected by the typhoon.

He said the PNP would provide financial and logistical aid to all personnel and their families impacted by Uwan.

“The PNP will extend assistance to our uniformed and non-uniformed personnel, as well as their families, to help them recover from the effects of the typhoon,” Nartatez added.
