Super Typhoon Uwan left a trail of destruction across the country over the weekend, damaging 26 police stations and headquarters, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday.
In a press briefing at Camp Crame, PNP spokesperson P/BGen. Randulf Tuaño said the affected facilities are located in Cagayan Valley, Bicol, Western Visayas, and Eastern Visayas.
“Among our personnel, there was recorded damage to 24 police stations in Regions 2, 5, 6, and 8, as well as two headquarters in Region 5,” Tuaño told reporters in Filipino.
He also noted that two police vehicles were damaged during the typhoon.
Meanwhile, some 27 uniformed personnel and one non-uniformed staff member were affected, with some losing personal property due to the severe weather.
In response, the PNP has activated disaster response measures.
“All our units are on alert and have activated their Risk Reduction Management Task Groups to respond immediately to hazards brought by Typhoon Uwan,” PNP Chief P/LtGen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said.
He added that the safety of personnel and their families is being prioritized to ensure uninterrupted service to the public.
So far, the PNP confirmed that no looting or other crimes related to the typhoon’s impact have been reported in the affected areas.
