Makati, Muntinlupa top stronger finance ranking

Makati City and Muntinlupa City have been recognized as among the top-performing local government units (LGUs) in the Philippines for strengthening local government finance in Fiscal Year 2024, according to the Department of Finance’s Bureau of Local Government Finance (BLGF).
Makati City Mayor Nancy Binay announced Thursday that Makati ranked among the Top 10 Cities Nationwide across multiple performance indicators, demonstrating exceptional efficiency in local revenue generation and fiscal independence.
In the Local Source Revenues category, Makati placed second nationwide, following Quezon City, by generating P18.9 billion in locally sourced revenues for FY2024. The city secured the top spot in the crucial Ratio of Local Source Revenues to Total Current Operating Income, recording an impressive 93.32 percent — the highest ratio among all evaluated cities. This figure indicates that the vast majority of the city’s operating income comes directly from its own local revenue sources, showcasing strong fiscal autonomy.
Separately, the local government of Muntinlupa, under Mayor Ruffy Biazon, was named one of the Top 8 Cities nationwide in Total Current Operating Expenditures (TCOE) per capita for Fiscal Year 2024. Biazon personally received the award during the BLGF’s Local Government Finance Forum at the SMX Convention Center Aura in Taguig City.
The TCOE per capita ranking measures how efficiently a local government uses its resources to deliver services relative to its population size. Mayor Biazon said the recognition affirms Muntinlupa’s brand of people-centered and value-driven governance.
