The local government of Marikina City won multiple recognitions for its outstanding achievements in cleanliness, safety, and good governance from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) during the 2025 Urban Governance Exemplar Awards held on Tuesday, 4 November, at Novotel in Quezon City.

Marikina earned these distinctions as a testament to the local government's dedication to making the city a safe, orderly, and compassionate city.

The city won several major awards, including:

• 1st Place – Manila Bay Clean-Up, Rehabilitation, and Preservation Program

• Ideal Functionality – Local Council for the Protection of Children Performance Year 2024

• Highly Functional – Local Committee on Anti-Trafficking and Violence Against Women and Their Children 2025 Functionality Audit

• Significant and Invaluable Partner in Advancing a Safe, Secure, and Drug-Free NCR

• Top Performer – MBCPRP Informal Settler Families Cluster

Mayor Marjorie Ann "Maan" Teodoro expressed gratitude to the DILG for bestowing the city with these awards, saying the recognitions affirm Marikina’s continuing commitment to uphold excellence in governance and service delivery.

She also thanked all city government employees and residents for their shared efforts in keeping Marikina clean, safe, and well-governed.

“These awards are a reflection of our collective effort as a community. Cleanliness, safety, and good governance are the core of what we stand for as Marikeños,” Teodoro said.

The mayor added that the recognitions inspire the city government to further strengthen programs on environmental protection, public safety, and social welfare.

The Urban Governance Exemplar Awards is the flagship awards program of DILG–NCR, established to recognize and celebrate the exemplary performance and outstanding execution of mandates by local government units in the region.

These achievements are rigorously assessed through the Department’s various audits and monitoring programs, reflecting the local government units’ steadfast commitment to good governance.
