Judge Luz del Carmen Ibanez to handle Duterte's ICC jurisdiction appeal

The International Criminal Court (ICC) Chamber of Appeal named Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza to preside the appeal for jurisdiction filed by the camp of former President Rodrigo Duterte over crimes against humanity.

ICC released a three-paged document on 29 October via their website appointing Carranza as the presiding judge of the appeal, signed by the President of the Appeals Division, Judge Erdenebalsuren Damdin.

Luz del Carmen Ibáñez Carranza is a Peruvian jurist who hasserved as the court's First Vice-President from 2021 to 2024 and presiding over high-profile cases. She served as Peruvian delegate to international bodies multiple times to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights and the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women. Her notable works include prosecution of Abimael Guzmán in Peru and ICC cases against Laurent Gbagbo, Bosco Ntaganda, and Dominic Ongwen.
