A Norwegian national wanted for child abuse in his home country was arrested after attempting to extend his tourist visa, the Bureau of Immigration (BI) reported Friday.
Authorities identified the suspect as 47-year-old Maryath Stig Ljunggren, who was intercepted on Wednesday, 29 October, when his name appeared in the derogatory database following a request from Norwegian authorities to locate and arrest him.
Ljunggren is wanted by the Oslo Public Prosecutor’s Office for sexual offenses against children.
“He reportedly abused a family member for a period of six years, spanning from 2014 to 2020,” the BI said in a statement. The suspect is also the subject of an Interpol Red Notice for the same case.
After confirming his identity, the BI’s Fugitive Search Unit (FSU) implemented the arrest.
