As Iglesia ni Cristo (INC) members around the world pause to celebrate the 70th birthday of their Executive Minister, Ka Eduardo V. Manalo, on 31 October 2025, it’s only fitting to reflect on the profound impact he’s had on their faith and on the greater community of believers. Verily, Ka Eduardo’s leadership has left an indelible mark on the INC, reaching far beyond the borders of the Philippines and uplifting countless lives with his wisdom and compassion.
Ka Eduardo was born in 1955, and he took the reins of the INC in 2009 — a time when the Church was seeking new direction and energy. The Iglesia ni Cristo itself was founded in 1914 by Felix Y. Manalo, and over the decades, it has become a central part of Filipino spiritual life.
As a student of philosophy at the University of the Philippines and theology at the INC’s Evangelical College, Ka Eduardo appropriately honed the skills that helped shape him into a leader who understands both the spiritual and practical needs of his flock.
Before becoming Executive Minister, Ka Eduardo had already shown his talent for bringing people together and inspiring action. He guided local congregations and founded the Society of Communicators and Networkers (SCAN), demonstrating that he could unite people for a common cause.
As Deputy Executive Minister from 1994, he carried the Church’s message to places as far away as Rome and Jerusalem, setting the stage for INC’s later global outreach. By the time he stepped into the top leadership role in 2009, members already saw him as a guiding star: someone who could nurture their faith while expanding the Church’s reach across the globe.
One of Ka Eduardo’s most remarkable achievements is his ability to tap into the strength of the Filipino diaspora. Filipinos are known for their resilience and their deep sense of community, no matter where in the world they may find themselves, and Ka Eduardo has harnessed this energy to turn the INC into a truly international religious movement.
Serving as a Special Envoy for Overseas Filipinos, he has connected INC members across North America, Europe, Africa, and beyond. Wherever Filipino families settle, they find a spiritual home thanks to Ka Eduardo’s initiatives, which offer unwavering support and a sense of belonging.
This global approach has continued to unite its far-flung members and become a powerful force for sharing the faith. New members are drawn in by the Church’s unity and the genuine care shown for every individual. The INC’s message of faith in one true God and Jesus Christ as His Son has worldwide resonance, and members see Ka Eduardo as the bridge linking their Filipino heritage to a universal mission.
But Ka Eduardo’s leadership is also for those whose faith is still developing. He is especially passionate about empowering the youth. Programs like KADIWA, short for “Kabataang May Diwang Wagas” or “Youth with Noble Intent,” have become the heartbeat of his vision for the Church.
Through Bible studies, conventions, and special events like the 2019 International Kadiwa Conference, young adults are encouraged to embrace their faith and engage with their communities. Thanks to the innovative leadership of embracing digital platforms, these programs reach even those who might be thousands of miles away, making INC teachings accessible and relevant to a new generation.
Ka Eduardo’s focus on youth has sparked a surge in membership, as young people see INC as a vibrant and inclusive place where their voices matter. This forward-thinking approach has made the Church not just a place of worship but a lively community, full of opportunities for personal and spiritual growth. Members, young and old, find inspiration in Ka Eduardo’s ability to connect with them, no matter their age or background.
His vision is also reflected in the INC’s physical infrastructure, which stands as a testament to both growth and faith. The Philippine Arena, dedicated in 2014 with its staggering 55,000-seat capacity, is a marvel of modern architecture and a symbol of the Church’s ambition. New houses of worship have sprung up from Washington, D.C., to Cape Town, providing sacred spaces where believers can gather and strengthen their faith. Members view these as monuments to Ka Eduardo’s leadership and the unity of the INC.
Beyond the spiritual guidance, Ka Eduardo has shown deep compassion through humanitarian efforts. After Typhoon Yolanda, he spearheaded the EVM Self-Sustainable Community Rehabilitation Project in Leyte, helping families rebuild their lives and drawing new believers with his message of hope and care.
Indeed, Ka Eduardo’s leadership transcends sermons and ceremony, it is making a real difference in people’s lives.
On his 70th birthday, INC members celebrate Ka Eduardo both as a religious leader and a visionary whose compassion and foresight have globalized their faith, empowered the youth, and built a legacy that will last for generations.
As someone looking in from the outside, it’s clear that his story is one of direction, unity, and hope for a brighter future. May God continue to guide him as he leads the INC forward in its radiant mission.
