GENERAL SANTOS CITY — Home bet Christian Isaiah Lagnason made waves Sunday after topping the boys’ 12-13 200-meter individual medley and the 12-13 100-meter free in the Batang Pinoy at the Antonio Acharon Sports Complex.
Lagnason clocked two minutes and 19.63 seconds while eclipsing the previous record of 2:22.02 set by Arvin Taguinota of Pasig City last year in the IM.
Von Andrei Piñon of Rizal placed second with 2:22.83 while Ramon Calix Ching of Pasay City finished in third place with 2:24.65.
Lagnason would then go on to reset the boys’ 12-13 100m freestyle after clocking in 57.26 seconds and shatter the 57.92-second record by Taguinota for his second gold medal of the day.
Also grabbing the spotlight was Ashton Clyde Jose of Santa Rosa City after clocking in 2:15:12 in the boys’ 16-17 200m IM but admitted he could have done better.
“I had a pretty bad start because I was going too fast and got tired on the back end. What happened was that my splits were wrong,” said Jose, who won three golds and two silver medals in last year’s Batang Pinoy in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
In athletics, not even the morning rain could stop Divine Pablito of Bago City from winning the first gold medal of this year’s Batang Pinoy.
The 16-year-old Pablito dominated the girls’ U18 discus throw after tallying 32.19 meters.
