Tubu shines as Foxies slam Super Spikers

There was no need for another scoring explosion from Eli Rousseaux, only a burst from Trisha Tubu.

The powerful lefty delivered a commanding 21-point performance, powering the Farm Fresh Foxies to a dominant 25-19, 25-20, 25-16 sweep of the Cignal Super Spikers in the PVL Reinforced Conference on Thursday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

It was more than just a record start win but rather a continuation of Farm Fresh’s stunning start to the tournament.

Coming off a four-set win over the Nxled Chameleons, the Foxies seized early control of Pool A in the two-group, 12-team year-ending conference, which is fast shaping up as a breakthrough stage for previously struggling teams.

With Akari and ZUS Coffee also staying perfect in Pool B at 2-0, Farm Fresh’s back-to-back victories have added an inspiring twist to the early narrative, placing the Chargers, Thunderbelles and Foxies firmly in the spotlight.

“We are very happy because this has been our best start in any conference,” said Tubu, who more than doubled her 10-point effort in their opening match, connecting on 19 of her 32 attacks.

Still, she deflected much of the credit to her teammates and their collective composure on the court.

“Even if we are facing tough teams, we should just stay relaxed,” she stressed, emphasizing their focus on smart play and hustle.

“We knew it would be for sure a difficult game because Cignal did not previously perform well. So we prepared for their reaction,” said Farm Fresh coach Alessandro Lodi.

Though Rousseaux slowed down from her tournament-best 38-point eruption in their opener, the Belgian import remained a steady presence with 17 points and 11 excellent digs, willingly stepping back to let Tubu shine.

Ces Molina, continuing her strong debut conference for Farm Fresh, added 11 points and six receptions, while Rizza Cruz and Lorene Toring combined for 11 points as the Foxies maintained balance on both ends.

Setter Alohi Robins-Hardy orchestrated the offense with 24 excellent sets, including the final one to Riri Meneses — another former Cignal standout like Molina — for a quick kill that sealed the match in just one hour and 21 minutes.

Libero Alyssa Bertolano also shone for Farm Fresh with 14 excellent digs and 10 receptions.

Farm Fresh outgunned Cignal on attacks, 52-34, and tallied six blocks, twice its opponent’s output. The Foxies also had four aces while conceding only two, though they continued to show vulnerability in reception and passing, surrendering 16 points off errors while gaining 13 from Cignal’s miscues.
